I joined the rush of people buying Gary Fong last year. I thought that images on site with lighting that mimics professional softboxes are rather lucrative.
Bought very expensively (Rp 700.000 / $75). Tried for a while.
I liked it at first. Gives even light, background illuminated too. Looks very cool as well. People always ask what that humongous thing is on top of my flash. I always say that is in case i need a glass to drink from :)
However, these disadvantages kept me from using Gary Fong much longer. It stays at home now.
- Heavy. Often times my 580 EX flash unit will tilt to a different direction because of the weight of Gary Fong. I often think if this much weight will jeopardize my expensive flash head.
- Often times it will give me too flat of a photo. If you photo events in hurry and often do not have time to consider bouncing options to generate variations of highlight shadow combinations, you will be interested in Gary Fong.
